Darwin House, Westminster

About:

Situated within the Grade II listed Churchill Gardens Estate and surrounded by listed buildings, our proposals for Darwin House include two buildings: a community-supported building with 34 homes and smaller building with 18 general needs homes.

The community-supported homes will replace existing bedsit accommodation on the site. The new homes are one-bed-plus and follow HAPPI design principles for age-friendly design, allowing for flexibility of use depending on care level needs. The general needs homes will be let to local residents – hoping to support young people’s and key workers’ ability to remain in the area.

The new buildings are highly sustainable and designed to a Passivhaus standard. The scheme has been stitched into the existing network of green spaces and makes the most of its riverside location by creating a new pedestrian route through the site, as well as offering views out over the Thames, across to Battersea Power Station.
